The day was great I was put at ease straight away. It was lovely to be pampered and I was made to feel at ease. It is a big thing as a woman to be parading around in your scanties however it is a very empowering experience and I would recommend it to any woman.

Glamour or Boudoir Photography near York – Which is your style?

People ask this all the time and here we’ll show you the difference so you can make an informed choice as to which type of photoshoot style you want to take part in.

Often, the line between these two genres can appear blurry but really it comes down to a sense of your own comfort limits.

Remember the old term of ‘Glamour Photography’ ? Page 3 of the Sun kind of style?

Well, let me tell you right now, Modern Glamour is most certainly not that!

Glamour is essentially a photoshoot with lots of facial portraits with fabulous hair and make-up. Often glamour is about stunning dresses and beautiful surroundings as well. Actually to remove the genre from the old-style image of ‘glamour’ we sometimes shorten the word to ‘Glam’ as in ‘Get your glam on’ or use the term ‘Beauty Photography’

Boudoir on the other hand is a little more intimate. It may or may not feature lingerie, but this type of photography is often more candid and personal. Less ‘eyes looking at the camera’ and more of a ‘not aware of the camera’ kind of look.

Boudoir is about everyday women getting sexy and alluring photos taken of themselves and it’s also a way for a woman to celebrate, acknowledge, and express her sexuality and her body.

It’s a very personal and private thing.

Modern Glamour is much more of a ‘makeover’ experience that will transform you into the most beautiful and glamorous versions of yourself with professional hair and makeup.

For some women, the Beauty/Glamour shoot is a way for them to experience what it’s like to be a real model for a day. It can also serve as a stepping stone for those who would like a boudoir shoot but have not worked up the courage yet to go through with it. (In actual fact, even those women who book a ‘Boudoir’ shoot specifically, we normally suggest bringing some dressy type options, just in case, walking around in lingerie becomes too overwhelming. Similarly, those who book a beauty photoshoot, we often suggest bringing along some favourite lingerie ‘just in case’ … It’s better to bring something and not use it than to regret not doing something once you’re there.

So, to summarise – Beauty is more about the face and hair and make-up, Boudoir is more about the body.

A Madison Bou Experience though will typically include a mixture of both styles and our clients are always amazed just how empowered and confidence inspired they become on the day.

It’s was a great day. Hair and make up well done and nicely relaxing. Shoot felt real. Hard work at times but that produced beautiful shots that weren’t over-edited. I went max on outfits 😂 which resulted in amazing photos I struggled to choose between.

She will help style you from top to bottom. You’ll have plenty of tuition well before you even arrive at the studio on the day of your photoshoot. Jayne will talk outfits at length and send you a unique style guide packed with ideas.

This is ALL ABOUT YOU so you’ll wear whatever works for you and to a comfort level that suits you.

Trying to figure out if you want to do a boudoir photography session or a glamour portrait session? Not sure which is which?

The dividing line between glamour and boudoir is quite subjective but in a nutshell , Glamour is more focused on hair and make-up, beauty and beautiful dresses. Think of the front page of Vogue or Vanity Fair. Imagine wearing your favourite ‘going out’ dresses in a beautiful Hazlewood Castle State Room with Chesterfields, open log fires and antique furniture. These are timeless portraits with lots of eye contact and connection with the camera. All of our clients get some modern glamour portraits and wearing your favourite outfits are a perfect way to get comfortable in front of the camera.

Many clients ask to try a little boudoir. (Some clients dive right in and want lots of boudoir, but, in truth, the majority want to dip their toe in the water before diving right in )

For us, Boudoir photography doesn’t just mean that you are in your underwear. It’s an approach to creating a range of portraits that is more personal, more sensual, more evocative, more mysterious and more alluring than a typical portrait session.

All our photoshoot experiences include professional make-up, hair styling and magazine-quality retouching, but they are there to enhance what you already have, not transform you into something unrealistic.

I was turning 40 and thought a boudoir photoshoot would be a good way of marking the occasion! I was really nervous a few days before but then, on the actual day, I felt calm and excited!
It was brilliant! I took a large suitcase full of clothes and accessories, including my wedding tiara and a feather boa, and Dave and I decided what I should wear and how to have my hair and make up. They totally looked after me and made me feel special from the moment I arrived.
Throughout the shoot, Dave was great at giving me directions, making me feel at ease, and just making me feel amazing!
I honestly would say to anyone, go and do it! Just to feel special, empowered, sexy, and fantastic. Everyone deserves a day where you come away feeling all of those things.
As for the photos themselves, the quality is excellent. It’s an investment. My husband and I bought a beautiful photo book and a metal picture for the bedroom, both of which I love. I’m proud to show the photos to my young daughters so that they know what a healthy body image looks like and I’m so glad I now have this lasting memory of a great day!

What is the lamest excuse we hear from clients before they book a photoshoot with us?

“I need to lose 10lbs before I do a boudoir photoshoot”

Honestly, if we’ve heard that once, we’ve heard it a million times, and guess what?

It’s a poor excuse.

Honestly, a Boudoir Photo shoot experience is something you should embrace at whatever stage you feel your body is at. It really is the most wonderful, confidence-building experience for any women, regardless of how they think they look.

We spend a lot of time helping women to become accepting of their own bodies. This feeling of newfound self-confidence can be totally life-changing.

You’ve heard the saying, ‘beauty comes from within’?

Well it’s true and we can prove it.

The journey towards accepting your beauty from within is essential to accepting your beauty on the outside.
