ARE YOU ONLY INTERESTED IN DIGITAL IMAGES?
Firstly, let’s get two things out in the open straight away…
I’ve been photographing professionally for over 20 years. I started, like everyone else in my generation, with film and processing images in a darkroom.
I was an early adopter of digital and photoshop. I’ve grown up through every stage of digital development.
I also had a parallel career in radio as a DJ and grew up with vinyl discs and then digital minidiscs, cds and now everything is touch screen, hard drive based.
25 years on radio, almost every day and I have dozens of minidiscs, cassettes, open reel tape and cds to prove it. Priceless interviews with some of the biggest showbiz artists in the world (Dolly Parton, Phil Collins,Kylie, Madonna, Sting the list is endless)
Yet, I have no way of playing them to my kids since I now stream everything in my house. I don’t own a dvd player, or cd player and certainly not a cassette or open real player.
I’m fast running out of options as well, regarding my stored pictures. USBs and DVDs are no longer available on my new Apple computers. (Soon they won’t be on any new computers)
Spinning hard drives, as soon as they die, will be replaced by solid state hard drives. (Standard on all Apple computers now)
Perhaps storing your precious digital images in the cloud will last several years, who knows?
Storing them on your phones and smart devices doesn’t sound very long term to me with the current speed of change in the mobile phone industry.
So when all the digital options have either become obsolete or changed to another incompatible medium, where will you be able to view your pictures in your old age? What will you be able to hand down to your kids?
Prints, that’s what. All our printed products are archival quality with the finest inks and papers and laminated to last for 100 years.
I’ll give your jpegs an outside chance of lasting 10 and any on your mobile phone, maybe 5 years.
This is why I’m so passionate about providing quality, printed products. They not only look amazing, they last forever.
There is one other reason though….
Over the last 20 years I’ve asked my brides and portrait clients what they’ve done with their digitals and they almost always tell me they haven’t had a chance to print any out yet. (They will one day, but life somehow gets in the way)
SO REMEMBER – BUY ANY PRINT PRODUCT AFTER A MADISON BOU EXPERIENCE AND YOU’LL GET DIGITALS INCLUDED.
